The passage that was indicated to my blog was Bigotry, Breast Milk, Bric-a-Brac, a Baby, and a Bit in Beloved: Toni Morrison's Portrayal of Racism and Hegemony” by Heather Duerre Human. Heather does a good job on showing the reader how racism is being portrayed in the book Beloved. Heather does this by giving specifics examples where racism is shown, and also by analyzing these quotes. For example around page 198 Sethe is in school when her perspectives on teachers changed after overhearing his teachers perspective on her. in page Sethe is humiliated on discovering the purpose of schoolteacher’s measurements when she over hears her teacher describe her as a member of the lower race who contains animal traits. Seth’s teacher was basically stating that Sethe is not human-like and he believes in racial discourse. Later on in the passage in page 65 Heather gives us a foreshadow on how Sethe was feeling after the incident. Sethe displays her disgust by saying “ No notebook for my babies and no measuring spring neither” Insisting that her children will not get treated as animals like she was(198). At another point she laments that “no one, no body on earth, would list her daughter’s characteristic on the animal side of paper. “No oh No”(251). In conclusion The learned her lesson on the way teacher judged their students the hard way and wishes no ever had to experience something so harsh. Sethe will not allow her children to go to school to have their flaws and inequalities pointed out by the whites daily.
I agree with everything Heather Duerre Human says in this text. After reading the passage thoughtfully I came across her strong tone in voice when speaking about racial discrimination. It seems to me as If the author knows what the are speaking about and we can tell they have specialized in racism. I am also a person who takes post colonial serious which allows me to have a connection with the author. I believe that racism should be stopped because no race should feel Superior than others. We should live in a world full with equality and less of abusement, judgment, hatred, and injustice.
I like how you clearly summarize what you want the audience to get out of the reading. I also like how you say what you agree with, and why you agree with it.
